Limit These Beverages For Better Health

dreamstime_xxl_2524763As the summer season gets closer and the temperatures begin to rise, we all begin to become more and more concerned with remaining properly hydrated. At LIFETIME Spines, we want everybody to be as healthy as they can be. Keep your body healthy this summer, and limit these beverages as you try to stay on top of your fluid intake:

Regular and Diet Soda

Your dentist shouldn’t be the only one concerned when you spend the day nursing can after can of soda. The amount of sugar in regular soda, the amount of harmful artificial sweeteners in diet soda, and the lack of nutritional value in either one makes it very important to limit your soda consumption.

Juice, Lemonade, and Sweetened Tea

To avoid consuming excessive sugar, artificial sweeteners, and high fructose corn syrup, try to stick to 100 percent fruit juice, fresh-squeezed lemonade with no sugar or artificial sweeteners, and unsweetened tea.

Energy and Sports Drinks

Energy drinks are effective because of their massive caffeine and sugar contents, but you should avoid consuming an excess of either to avoid harmful consequences such as caffeine toxicity or stroke. Sports drinks, too, should be limited to avoid consuming too much sodium, sugar, artificial sweeteners, and other additives.

Certain Coffee Drinks

Blended frozen and iced coffee drinks are often very heavy in calories, and the energizing effects are actually more often  a result of the sugar than of the caffeine. In fact, some of these beverages contain as much as two and a half times more sugar than an adult should consume in a single day.

Beer and Wine Coolers

Limit your wine cooler intake to avoid consuming excessive amounts of sugar and artificial sweeteners; limit your beer intake to avoid empty calories and increased risk for the development of high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and kidney disease.

As you enjoy the warm weather these coming spring and summer months, remember that water is always the best option to stay hydrated while also promoting good health. To ensure that your immune system is up for the task of keeping you healthy this summer, come into LIFETIME Spines in Austin for an immune-boosting chiropractic adjustment.
